Cheonggye Plaza
Huge square at the start of Cheonggyecheon Stream with a twisting, red-&-blue sculpture & waterfall.
A nature-friendly plaza with ecological environment created at Sejong-ro where Cheonggyechon in Jung-gu, Seoul begins. It is a representative tourist attraction in Seoul that offers various sights and is easily accessible, making it popular with citizens and foreign tourists. The plaza features a three-colored illuminated candle fountain and a two-tier waterfall with water streams falling 4 meters below, and on both sides of the waterfall is the 'Palseokdam' made of eight provincial stones brought from across the country. At night, the plaza's lighting and water create a fantastic sight, attracting many visitors even after dark. A miniature reproduction of the entire Cheonggyechon stream scaled down to 1/100 is also offered as an attraction, and the plaza hosts diverse citizen cultural events and festivals throughout the year.

An existing road has been redeveloped into a pedestrian-focused roadway, combining sidewalks, shared pedestrian-vehicle roads, and a green corridor concept—a first-of-its-kind case in Korea with a length of 900m. Eco-friendly clay blocks and paving stones have been applied to ensure safe pedestrian passage, and 130 trees of three species including nettle trees have been planted along with 20 benches for citizen rest areas, creating a historic streetscape connected to the surrounding Deoksugung Palace and improving the street environment.
