Deoksugung Palace's Daehanmun Gate

Deoksugung is the imperial palace of the Korean Empire, proclaimed in 1897, and was formerly known as Gyeongungung. Deoksugung was originally the private residence of Wolsan Daekun, the older brother of the 9th king of Joseon, Seongjong, and later served as the residence of Wolsan Daekun's descendants. When all the palaces in the capital were destroyed during the Imjin War in 1592 (the 25th year of King Seonjo's reign), it began to be used as a temporary palace from 1593 (the 26th year of King Seonjo's reign) and was called Jeongneungdong Haenggung (貞陵洞 行宮). Subsequently, in 1611 (the 3rd year of King Gwanghaegun's reign), it was officially named Gyeongungung (慶運宮) and became a formal palace, but later became a secondary palace when Changdeokgung was reconstructed.

An existing road has been redeveloped into a pedestrian-focused roadway, combining sidewalks, shared pedestrian-vehicle roads, and a green corridor concept—a first-of-its-kind case in Korea with a length of 900m. Eco-friendly clay blocks and paving stones have been applied to ensure safe pedestrian passage, and 130 trees of three species including nettle trees have been planted along with 20 benches for citizen rest areas, creating a historic streetscape connected to the surrounding Deoksugung Palace and improving the street environment.

The Seoul Anglican Cathedral of the Korean Anglican Church is a disciple community that proclaims the faith of communion. As the cathedral of the Seoul Diocese of the Korean Anglican Church, it was begun by Bishop Mark Trollope, the third bishop of the Joseon Anglican Church, according to designs by Englishman Arthur Dixon, and was consecrated. Subsequently, the original design drawings were discovered in an English library in 1993, and the cathedral was completed in its original form in 1996. This cathedral building harmonizes Romanesque style with Korean traditional architectural techniques to create a beautiful structure.

Jungmyeongjeon Hall

Jungmyeong-jeon is an important historical site of the Korean Empire. After the great fire at Gyeongwun Palace (now Deoksu Palace) in 1904, it served as the private chamber of Emperor Gojong, who relocated his residence there. The Eulsa Treaty was illegally concluded here in November 1905, and it was from Jungmyeong-jeon that special envoys including Lee Jun were dispatched to The Hague on April 20, 1907 to inform the international community of the injustice of the Eulsa Treaty.
