Namsan Beacon Station
A bongsudae is an ancient communication method that conveyed urgent news using fire and smoke. By lighting fires on high mountains, signals were sent during the day through smoke and at night through firelight. The Namsan bongsudae was established after the capital was moved to Hanyang in the 3rd year of Joseon's founding king (1394) and was used for approximately 500 years until the year following the Gabo Reform. It is sometimes called 'Mokmyeongsan bongsudae' after the old name of Namsan, and is also referred to as 'Gyeongbongsudae' because it is located in Seoul.

It is sometimes called 'Mokmyeongsan bongsudae' after the old name of Namsan, and is also referred to as 'Gyeongbongsudae' because it is located in Seoul. During peacetime, one fire was lit; when enemies appeared, two fires; when enemies approached the border, three fires; when the border was breached, four fires; and when allied forces engaged in battle at the border, five fires were lit. The Namsan bongsudae served as the central bongsudae through which bongsudae signals from across the nation were relayed, playing an important role. There were reportedly five sites extending from east to west, but the bongsudae structure no longer exists and only the site remains. Due to lack of transmitted records, the exact location cannot be confirmed, but one site has been restored by synthesizing related materials such as the 'Cheonggudo' map.
